The Best Alien Games to Play in 2026

Ever since Disney acquired the Alien property in 2019, alongside several other 20th Century Fox franchises, the Alien franchise has been in a new era of popularity and versatility with several movies, shows, comics, and video games being developed to widespread critical and financial success.

While the Alien fandom is currently in an ongoing debate following the news of Ridley Scott turning Alien: Romulus' sequel into an Alien: Covenant sequel, there's still a lot to look forward to as an Alien film fan, and especially as an Alien game fan.

With the Halloween season fast approaching, the long-awaited Alien: Isolation 2 on the horizon, and the second season of Alien: Earth currently in production, here are eight Alien-related video games fans should check out or revisit this year.

Metroidvania games have become increasingly popular over the years, thanks to titles like Hollow Knight, Ori and the Blind Forest, and Animal Well, but there are still several entries in the genre that seem to get forgotten with time. One unique entry that should be remembered and revisited is Aliens: Infestation.

Originally intended to be a tie-in to the much maligned Aliens: Colonial Marines, Aliens: Infestation is a 2D action horror metroidvania released for the Nintendo DS that followed the troops of Fireteam Fox as they travel to the USS Sulaco and LV-426 after the events of Aliens, only to encounter hostile robots and a new Xenomorph outbreak.

Infestation is an utter gem of the Nintendo DS' vast library, and it's easily one of the best metroidvanias to debut on the handheld, but it's also a treat for Alien fans. Fireteam Fox will encounter several fun Xenomorph variants in the game, like Gorilla Xenomorphs and a Space Jockey Xenomorph.

Yes, technically, the highly popular asymmetrical multiplayer survival horror game Dead by Daylight isn't a true Alien-focused video game, but it features so much Alien content, including the new Alien 2v8 event, that horror and Alien fans need to check it out soon.

Much like other asymmetrical multiplayer horror games, Dead by Daylight typically has one person playing as a Killer who's forced to hunt down four Survivors, but in the new event, matches can actually be played with two Killers hunting down eight Survivors.

Here, Killers can play as the newly added and rarely seen Xenomorph variant, the Xenomorph King, with Survivors additionally being able to play as fan-favorite Alien characters like Ellen Ripley, Private William Hudson, and Rain Carradine on a map inspired by LV-426 and the USCSS Nostromo.

6 Alien: Blackout

A select few lucky fans were able to play an early demo of Alien: Isolation 2 this year. While the rest of us will likely have to wait several months or a year to play the game in its complete form, that upcoming game actually wasn't the first sequel made to Isolation, with that honor going to Alien: Blackout.

A mobile survival game in the same vein as Five Nights at Freddy's, Alien: Blackout takes place shortly after the events of Isolation and follows Amanda Ripley as she strives to save the crew of the USCSS Haldin from a Xenomorph attack, with gameplay revolving around Ripley directing people away from the Xenomorph.

Blackout may not be as long or complex as Isolation, and it certainly wasn't the sequel fans wanted at the time of its release, but it's still fun to play as Amanda Ripley again, and it'd make for a great time for fans who cannot wait to hopefully see Ripley's daughter again in Isolation 2.

Bit Reactor and Respawn Entertainment recently introduced a whole new generation of gamers to the turn-based tactics genre with Star Wars Zero Company. If gamers new to that genre wanted to try out a more difficult, horrifying experience, then they've definitely got to check out Aliens: Dark Descent.

Set in between Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection, Aliens: Dark Descent is a real-time tactics game centered around the Colonial Marines of the USS Otago, as they crash-land on the colony moon of Lethe and wind up investigating a new Xenomorph outbreak in the colony and other unsettling occurrences.

Compared to Zero Company, Dark Descent is far more visceral and intense with its gameplay, with players having to manage their squad's physical and mental health following horrifying Xenomorph encounters in order to ensure peak combat effectiveness. It reminiscent of Darkest Dungeon in that way.

4 Aliens vs. Predator

Rebellion Developments was famous in the 1990s for creating some of the earliest and most beloved Aliens vs. Predator video games and, in 2027, the England-based developer will release their very own Aliens-like FPS game, Alien Deathstorm. 2010's Aliens vs. Predator gives a good impression of the kind of thing to expect.

One of the last AVP games ever released, 2010's Aliens vs. Predator sees the Xenomorphs, the predatory Yautja, and humanity once again come to blows after the events of Alien 3 on the ancient Yautja world of BG-386. Weyland-Yutani unleashes yet another Xenomorph outbreak whilst attempting to access Yautja ruins.

2010's AVP is easily one of the most bloody and gory games of the seventh console generation, making it an absolute blast for Alien and Predator fans alike. It features three interconnected campaigns having players embody a Xenomorph, a Predator, and a Colonial Marine as they sow chaos throughout BG-386 and encounters horrors of all kinds.

3 Alien: Rogue Incursion

As mentioned before, several great Alien games have been released in the 2020s following Disney's acquisition of the property, but a few have gone to be forgotten by fans and are considered to be underrated by those who have played them. The virtual reality game, Alien: Rogue Incursion is another great example.

Available on PSVR2, Meta Quest 3, SteamVR, and traditional gaming platforms, Alien: Rogue Incursion has players embody Alien comic book character and former Colonial Marine Zula Hendricks, as she responds to a message from an old friend on the planet Purdan, only to find its local settlement infested with Xenomorphs.

As a VR game, Rogue Incursion is fairly short, but it is expected to receive a sequel next year, with the game even having some fun connections to Isolation and Alien comics. This should encourage fans of the game to go out and read some of the franchise's intriguing expanded universe material.

In 2021, Cold Iron Studios released the incredibly fun three-player co-op third-person shooter Aliens: Fireteam Elite, which saw players fend off hordes of Xenomorphs and Pathogen-mutated creatures on LV-895. Now, people will be able to embark on a new mission with their Colonial Marine squad in Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2.

The latest video game entry in the Alien franchise, Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 sees the marines of the USS Endeavor once again be deployed on yet another bug hunt. They'll set out to eliminate Xenomorph and Pathogen threats on LV-558, only to discover ungodly experiments on humans and Xenomorphs alike.

Unlike the first Fireteam Elite, Fireteam Elite 2 features four-player co-op, a new Specialist class, and more additions to this engaging, horrifying formula.

Easily the number one Alien video game every Alien fan and horror game enthusiast needs to play or revisit before the year's end is Creative Assembly's first-person survival horror masterpiece, Alien: Isolation. How else would you prepare for Alien: Isolation 2's upcoming launch?

Set 15 years after the events of Alien but 42 years before the events of Aliens, Alien: Isolation sees Amanda Ripley journey to Sevastopol Station in search of the Nostromo's flight recorder and any sign pointing towards her mother's whereabouts. She finds the station in utter chaos as a Xenomorph preys upon any unsuspecting human.

In many ways, Isolation was responsible for reinvigorating the Alien franchise during the 2010s and is still regarded as one of the best pieces of Alien content ever made. CA's painstaking attention to detail in recreating the original film's ship and technology design philosophy, whilst implementing some of the most smart and terrifying AI featured in a video game, paid dividends.
