It’s Halloween weekend, and this week’s Shack Chat has us thinking about the games we want to see get spooky season events.
Shack Staff October 31, 2026 10:00 AM 1Welcome to Halloween weekend, Shackers! It’s the time of year when we don our scariest apparel and go out in search of tricks and treats. A good place to find treats is in the Halloween events of your favorite game. Not every game does that, but the ones that manage to fit spooky seasonal events in are always appreciated. With that in mind, we opine on the games we think could use some limited-time Halloween fun!
Question: What game needs a Halloween event?
Splatoon Raiders - Ozzie Mejia, Senior Splatter
Splatoon Raiders is a relative newcomer to the gaming scene, but after spending dozens of hours on it for review, I can say that it would slot pretty well into the Halloween holiday. Sometimes, you get tired of seeing the same Salmonids, which is something I cited as one of the game's weaknesses, but a Halloween event would at least offer the opportunity for a change. There's more than enough to do during the game and after the credits roll that a holiday event can be organically slotted in. You don't even have to make up currency or anything, just make a few fun holiday assets and change up the visuals a bit. Maybe make a spooky version of one of the music tracks.
Splatoon Raiders is a game with a long tail, one that you can feasibly play for a long time. So why not make a Halloween event for it?
Street Fighter 6 - TJ Denzer remembers when Capcom did holiday DLC
I hate Street Fighter 5. I think it was one of the worst points in the entire Street Fighter series following a ridiculously good era with Street Fighter 4, but here’s one thing I thought was cool about Street Fighter 5: the constant costume DLC. I played Juri as my main in Street Fighter 5, so when they came out with Halloween costumes, one of which put Juri in Lilith’s costume, I was thrilled. Street Fighter 6, by comparison, feels like it’s been the slowest drip ever in that kind of content. Yeah, we’re seeing some costume 3s come out, but I miss seeing outlandish costume sets that sometimes just happened like they did in SF5. Street Fighter 6 is a superior game, but I wish Capcom had a little more fun with hits limited time events and cosmetics to keep things interesting.
F-ZERO 99 - Asif Khan, Senior F-ZERO Correspondent
As much as I love the current Lightning Event in F-ZERO 99, it would be pretty cool to see a Halloween event that turns all the vehicles into pumpkins or something. The event could also add spooky in-game cosmetics that players could unlock. I am not sure how many developers are left working on the game over three years after its release, but the live service support has been outstanding. A Halloween F-ZERO 99 Event would be delicious.
Stalker 2 - Bill Lavoy, Shackmaps Overlord
While I’d love to see a Halloween event in Stalker 2 it occurs to me that the entire game is basically a hostile, scary world where monsters are trying to kill you. How do you build a Halloween event around that? I dunno, but I’m telling you if GSC Game World ever wanted to crank it up to 11, an in-game Stalker 2 Halloween event would be a home run.
Zelda: Breath of the Wild/TOTK - David L. Craddock, wants more Zelda
Imagine an open-world Zelda game with special events. Imagine running around Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom and running into Poes or scary bosses from past Zelda games? Bongo-Bongo and Dead Hand from Ocarina of Time would be great candidates.
Red Dead Redemption 2 - Sam Chandler, Undead
Red Dead Redemption 2 is a perfect game, but I feel Rockstar could have done a bit more with the world in regards to post-release content. We had Red Dead Online, and while it’s great to ride around in a posse with your homies, the single-player experience wasn’t explored much beyond the base game. In contrast, Red Dead Redemption received the Undead Nightmare DLC, which added zombies! It would have been great to see how Arthur tackles an outbreak in Saint Denis.
Dispatch - Donovan Erskine, SDN Editor
When you’ve got a great ensemble of characters, you can drop them into virtually any setting and get some interesting results. Give me the SDN crew on Halloween, with everyone showing up to the office in costume. It could be like the Halloween episodes of The Office, playing into the humor of what everyone decides to dress up as. Top it off with a fun mission in which the gang investigates some paranormal stuff happening in Torrance, Scooby-Doo style.
Mario Kart World - Steve Tyminski, Stevetendo Show Host, Gotta Drive Fast!
What game needs a Halloween event? There are a couple of games I could go with for this answer. I'm obsessed with Tape to Tape, the hockey roguelike that just came out recently. It would be fun to play a team of monsters and ghouls. It did just come out, so I'll give them a little bit of slack. My final answer for this is Mario Kart World. Nintendo hasn't really added too much for Mario Kart World. I mean a couple of new Knockout Tour routes is something. What I mean is that they haven't added new costumes or characters or cups. There are plenty of spooky race tracks they could add or create brand new ghost-ones like Boo Cinema. I still can't believe we haven't gotten new costumes for DK and Pauline from DK Bananza but I digress. Nintendo could also add Halloween-themed P switch missions if they wanted. Also, where is my boy, Chain Chomp as a character? For all the no name drivers in this game, why so much Chain Chomp disrespect? If Goomba can drive with no hands, then my guy Chomp belongs in Mario Kart World.
