When video games began introducing achievements and trophies, it was a fun way to track how you were progressing in a game and show off what you’ve done to friends, and at times an opportunity for developers to sneak in a joke or Easter egg from time to time. For some gamers, they are an afterthought if they’re thought of at all, but for others, they can be a key part of the fun of playing.

For those who enjoy chasing down a game’s trophies, there is no accomplishment more important than stacking up platinum trophies. A gamer receives a platinum trophy for completing every standard trophy in the game, and for trophy-focused gamers, it is the pinnacle of achievement within a given game.

Unfortunately for gamers looking to platinum EA FC 27, it looks like you’d better be ready to open up your wallet. That’s because the trophies for the game have been released, and they point to tasks that will almost certainly require spending additional money after the initial purchase to clear all the accomplishments.

The culprit lies in the “All Aboard the Premium Track” trophy. As the name implies, this trophy requires gamers to fully complete the Premium Pass in the game. Although technically available for in-game coins, the practical effort of completing the accomplishment entirely with grind-based currency is simply not a reasonable goal.

Instead, gamers looking to platinum FC 27 will likely need to shell out for a premium addition to the game or spend real-world money on virtual currency to purchase the passes required to earn the trophy and, with it, the ability to platinum. Microtransaction creep is nothing new in sports gaming, particularly for EA, which saw harsh pushback over their use in College Football 27, but locking off a trophy behind a paywall will be particularly irksome to many gamers.
